Kill Your Darlings -Book Review
Kyla's story drew me in from the very beginning. I don't know if it's because I'm a writer myself and can relate to a lot of what the main character is going through, but I really vibe with this story.
Kyla is an author struggling with balance between her life and her story. Her imagination taking hold when things get too heavy on her soul.
Suddenly she wakes up to realize her imaginary world isnt so imaginary. Now that she is living in it, she realizes she needs to change the fated ending where all her characters die.
This story is a fun roller coaster of emotions and gets deep into Kyla's mental health state. It is not for the faint of heart. Suicide attempt aside, the detail and description are amazingly written. You can tell the author wrote it from the heart. I felt like I was there making decisions along side Kyla as she discovered herself, and saved her world.
Cendrion the dragon was my favorite character, of course cuz he is a dragon. But, he is a very wise dragon and helps Kyla realize herself and her true ability. His shadow magic was unique and gave him a sense of mystery. Its not often i find a story where the dragons have unique abilities and personality.
Kill your Darlings was not the book I expected. It hit me with emotional truths that I felt on a personal level. Anyone struggling with the burdens of mental health or depression will get a lot from this story. Anyone struggling internal battles needs to hear this message.
